A computer network is two or more computer systems connected together to share resources and to communicate with each other. This allows for the transfer of data, music, movies, other files, gaming data, and shared Internet resources between multiple computers in the home. Home networks are becoming more prevelant in every home environment because they allow the connection of multiple electronic devices in order to better organize your digital lifestyle. Networking your computer, appliances, and home electronics will make your home more efficient, and much more functional. Networking is the present and the future. It's the easiest way to communicate with other computers.
Some of the equipment needed for a home network is as follows:
Pakedge has created a unique wireless solution that is geared toward new construction in the residential market. Just as the wired networks are best installed at the time of construction, so is the wireless network. The wireless network requires a wired interface to your Internet service. After construction this may limit the locations and, as such, your network performance.
The Pakedge solution uses an IEEE 802.11g WLAN (Ethernet Wireless Local Area Network). As the latest standard, 802.11g is backwards compatible to 802.11b.
To facilitate a clean versatile solution, the Pakedge WAP uses Power Over Ethernet (POE) to power the product over the CAT 5E cable. This allows the WAP to be located anywhere in the house and only requires a single CAT 5E cable to be run from the service center to the WAP. The Pakedge WAP also has a custom booster antenna to provide a strong uniform coverage of the home. This minimizes dead spots and shadows.
The ideal location for the WAP is high and central in the house. To facilitate this in an unobtrusive way, the Pakedge WAP is recess mounted in the ceiling. A clean, shallow dome much like a speaker or smoke detector is all that is seen after the unit is installed. The POE wiring (a single CAT 5E cable) makes this easy to plan and to install.
Hub/Switch - A device which connects all data connections in the home. This could be compared to an intersection with a stop light, where all the data in the home converges and is routed to its destination (be it another computer in the home, or the Internet router) "Linksys hubs offer high-performance in a small package".
Router - A mediator between the Internet and multiple Internet-ready devices (such as computers, personal video recorders, and internet radio devices) in order to share on Internet connection. "Linksys routers help connect your home to the Internet, while keeping it safe by providing built-in firewall protection" .
Wireless Gateway - An access point between wireless devices (such as a laptop, PDA, or telephone) and the wired home network.
"Linksys wireless gateways help connect the wireless world to the wired and offer a longer range for better wireless coverage in your home".
